Monte Rufeno Nature Reserve

Established with L.R. N. 66/1983, is part of the Lazio protected area system and extends for about 3000 hectares in the municipality of Acquapendente, on the border with Tuscany and Umbria. The area is divided into two parts by the River Paglia: the North Zone, about two thirds of the total area, goes from the river to the hamlet of Trevinano, the remaining part, to the south, extends from the straw to the hamlet of Torre Safina.

The forests and the environments that make up the reserve have a great naturalistic value, so that the aims of the protected area are the protection of the forest ecosystem in all its components, the promotion of sustainable tourism, also through the management of Old renovated farmhouses that are important elements of the landscape, and the development of compatible activities such as environmental education and agriculture with low environmental impact. Conservation and enhancement of the environmental heritage are therefore the fundamental principles of this reserve, one of the first regional protected areas to have been established.
